“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” - Psalm 147:3

Dear siblings in Christ,

Our hearts are heavy following the events at the Kipona Festival in Harrisburg this past Labor Day. What began as a joyful celebration turned somber when a vehicle broke through barriers and struck three individuals—a young boy, a woman in a wheelchair, and a city worker. Though their injuries were serious, we give thanks that their lives were spared.

In moments like these, we’re reminded of life’s fragility and the power of compassion. Amidst the chaos, neighbors and strangers stepped forward, offering aid, comfort, and care. Their actions reflect the essence of our faith: love in motion.

As United Methodists, we grieve the brokenness of the world and bring it before God in prayer. But we also live out practical divinity—a grace that moves through us in acts of mercy and courage.

We pray for healing for those who were injured and for strength for their families. We also give thanks for all who responded with compassion, embodying God’s love in real and tangible ways.

May this moment renew our commitment to care deeply, pray faithfully, and act mercifully when the world needs it most.
