Frequently Asked Questions
Why does our church need a Safe Sanctuaries policy if we don’t have children right now?
Safe Sanctuaries policies apply to vulnerable adults as well as children and youth. Many families will not engage a church without these protections in place. It is always better to be prepared before a need arises.
Can someone with a criminal history attend worship?
Safe Sanctuaries seeks both safety and grace. Some congregations are equipped to support attendance with appropriate safeguards in place. Others may not be. Guidance is available to help churches discern responsible and compassionate responses.
Will the Conference review our policy?
Conference staff can offer guidance on best practices and common elements but cannot provide legal review. Churches are encouraged to consult legal counsel as needed.
