On March 22, the Neighborhood Center of the United Methodist Church announced their decision to pause operations effective close of day on May 3, 2024. During this time, the Board will reevaluate their programming and structure to ensure that they meet the community’s needs, align with the mission and values of the center, and are sustainable for years to come.
This week, Bishop Moore-Koikoi joined with bishops from the African Methodist Episcopal Church, the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, and The United Methodist Church for a study tour and pilgrimage in Rome to witness to the churches’ ongoing pilgrimage of reconciliation and to learn about Christian unity. On March 6, she visited the Vatican alongside the others bishops and had the honor of being seated in the inner court to participate in the weekly general audience with Pope Francis.
In 2019 the United Methodist Foundation of Pennsylvania launched a Laity Leadership Academy designed to empower laity to lead the churches of our region in the ever-changing landscape of congregational life. Participants read some of the greatest books currently available on the topic, experience seminars led by the finest leaders in our conference, engage with one another in dialogue, and build relationships that provide support for the journey.
The United Methodist Foundation of Pennsylvania is pleased to announce an educational opportunity in partnership with Dakota Wesleyan University (DWU). The program is designed to provide training on “Practical Church Leadership (PCL),” giving ministry leaders the tools and confidence they need to live into the changing nature of congregational life. It is an ecumenical program designed for both clergy and laity who serve in a professional capacity (camp directors, conference center staff, parachurch leaders). The Foundation is interested in recruiting a cohort of approximately 15 participants from the two annual conferences that we serve, Western Pennsylvania and Susquehanna, to begin study in July 2024.
