Kim Shockley holds degrees in Christian Education and has been trained in several venues as a ministry and leadership coach for pastors and lay leadership teams. She has worked for the Western Pennsylvania Annual Conference as the Media Resource Director and the Florida Annual Conference as a Congregational Excellence specialist. She served the denomination as the Team Leader for the Toward Vitality research project, the Western North Carolina Annual Conference as the Church Vitality Strategist for the Catawba Valley District and is now the Coordinator of Pathways for Spiritual Leadership for the Susquehanna Conference of the United Methodist Church.
Kim is married to Gary A Shockley and they wrote Imagining Church: Seeing Hope in a World of Change for Alban Institute in 2009. They have worked, unofficially, as ministry partners starting two new congregations for the United Methodist Church. In 2013 Kim and Paul Nixon published The Surprise Factor for Abingdon Press. The book highlights ten strategies (intentional decisions) that are helpful for leading fruitful and vital congregations, mostly gleaned from the Toward Vitality research. She is a contributing writer for Launching a New Worship Community, Discipleship Ministries, 2021. Developing “GROW! Living as Spiritual Transformational Leaders” – a new curriculum for the Susquehanna Conference – has been her latest writing project.
As a ministry coach, facilitator, and consultant, Kim works with pastors and lay people in leadership to define a new sense of clarity for ministry today that discovers pathways of fruitful discipleship and leadership. In her role with the Susquehanna Conference, Kim engages others in abundant Christian love that transforms lives wherever she goes! Much of this work is accomplished by paying attention to obstacles, working to overcome the obstacles, and holding congregations accountable to Christian behavior.
Gary and Kim Shockley are the parents of two adult sons and grandparents of Jade and Jettson!
