“To everything there is a season...” -Ecclesiastes 3:1a

Dear Susquehanna clergy and laity community,

Grace and peace to you in Christ.

Rev. Dr. Gary Weaver, River Valley District Superintendent and Dean of the Cabinet, has shared with me his intention to retire from active ministry, effective June 30, 2026.

Rev. Weaver has faithfully served the United Methodist Church for 30 years, including six years as Conference Superintendent - three in the former Lewisburg District and three in River Valley. Prior to that, he pastored churches across several districts and served on both Conference and Jurisdictional committees. In 2024, Gary was elected to the Standing Committee on Central Conference Matters. During the 2023-2024 season of discernment, he offered steady leadership to congregations navigating disaffiliation decisions. His ministry has always been marked by a deep love for the Gospel and a commitment to helping churches grow beyond their walls.

Cindy Weaver, Executive Administrative Assistant for the Episcopal Office, will also be retiring June 30, 2026. Cindy has brought a wealth of knowledge and commitment to the Susquehanna Conference in the years she has been in ministry with us. From serving as Administrative Assistant of the former Harrisburg District, to Executive Administrative Assistant for the Episcopal Office and Conference Secretary, Cindy’s commitment to Christ and the Annual Conference, as well as her warm and non-anxious presence, have been an invaluable asset not only to the office of Bishop, but also to the entire Annual Conference.

Upon retirement, Gary and his wife Cindy will move to Wilmington, Delaware to be near their son and grandchildren. On behalf of the Missional Cabinet, I offer deep gratitude for Gary and Cindy’s integrity, grace, and faithfulness during their many years of service, and wish them the best in this next season of life.

New Dean of the Cabinet

In light of Rev. Weaver’s upcoming retirement, I intend to appoint Rev. Daniel Wilt as Dean of the Susquehanna Cabinet, effective July 1, 2026. In just two years in the Cabinet, Daniel has shown he has the skills and the visionary leadership we need for the road ahead. Rev. Wilt will continue being the Superintendent of the Northern Wilds District.

Please join me in celebrating Gary and Cindy’s ministry as we pray for them in this time of transition. Also, keep Daniel in your prayers as he prepares for this new role.

I will share more soon about the discernment process for the next River Valley Superintendent.

Together in mission,
