Dates: Saturdays, October 6 and October 13, 2018 - The class will run from 9 am to 3 pm
Location: McConnellstown UMC, 11251 Ward Street, McConnellstown, PA 16660

Course 1: Leading Worship      Book Cost:   $12 to $15 + shipping         ISBN 13: 9780687335268
Instructor: Rev. Mick Dawes

Class will explore creative ways to develop your worship service opportunities, using the book “Worshiping with United Methodists”, by Hoyt L. Hickman.  This advanced course in Lay Servant Ministries  focuses on the Lay Servant who either regularly or occasionally leads a group, class, organization, or the congregation in worship.  The course is grounded in the classic patterns of Christian worship and the practices of leading worship. Participants will come to understand more about Christian worship in order to lead with more confidence.

Course 2: Bible Study               Book Cost:   $15 to $20. +shipping           ISBN-13: 9780687016082
Instructors: Led by Rev. Eric Shafer and Rev. Nancy Goff

Class will investigate many methods and concepts for leading a group Bible Study using the book “Biblical Interpretation: A Roadmap”, by Sharon Ringe and Frederick Tiffany.  The authors offer an approach to biblical interpretation that takes the texts and the reading context into consideration.  Readers are encouraged to draw upon their own life experiences, and to recognize that wide-ranging experiences and contexts are necessarily involved in the biblical interpretation.  This approach shows how a critical engagement, with all historical, social, and cultural diversity considerations, is itself an unavoidable and invaluable part of the total interpretative process.
