Lay Servant Ministry Classes now being offered
Spring classes for 2017 will be offered at Bedford United Methodist Church, 132 E. John St, Bedford, PA.
The classes will meet March 24 & 25, 2017. Friday class will be from 6 – 9: 30 pm, and Saturday from 9am – 4pm.
Prayer (led by Pastor Debi Decker)~ “The Dimensions of Prayer” will be an interactive time of discussion and exploration of many facets of prayer: private, congregational, formed (ex. The Lord’s Prayer), contemplative (silent), and more.
United Methodist Polity (led by Rev Mick Dawes & Pastor Duane Coy) ~ “Life Together in the United Methodist Connection” ; UM Polity for the Laity is an advanced course that is required for Lay Servants who wish to become Lay Speakers. This class will provide an overview of the structure and organization of the UMC, and a closer look at those areas of the church concerning the laity participation. All participants should bring a copy of the 2016 United Methodist Book of Discipline for referral purposes. An optional book for further reading study is Polity, Practice, and Mission of the United Methodist Church by Thomas Edward Frank.
Faith Sharing (led by Pastor Beth Pyles) ~ The goal of this time together will be to investigate what Faith Sharing meant to John Wesley, and what it means to us today. The class will also explore way so sharing our faith with others confidently effectively.
Meals will not be served, so you must bring a bag lunch.
Participants for all classes should bring a Bible (your favorite translation), notebook, and pen/pencil.
