United Methodist and other Christians in Susquehanna Conference make a difference in the lives of prisoners and their families after they leave prison through transitional living centers and halfway houses such as Daystar Center for Spiritual Recovery in Harrisburg and Promise Place in Steelton. Daystar's ministry includes residential drug and alcohol treatment; spiritual discipline; cooperation with Alcoholics Anonymous; ministry to incarcerated youth; educational workshops on drug and alcohol recovery; and a re-entry house known as Star Fellowship.
Other services in central Pennsylvania include employment services, educational scholarships, housing, counseling, life skills training, mentoring programs and other similar avenues that support persons as they develop an independent, responsible life in the community.
