CHANGES IN THE LAITY DELEGATION TO GENERAL CONFERENCE 2019

We have received word from elected laity delegate Warren Heil that due to a serious illness he will be unable to attend the February 2019 General Conference in St. Louis. This results in a change to our laity delegation, which has been reflected on our conference web page

When a delegate is unable to serve, delegates elected after that delegate move up one position. Therefore, the revised list of lay delegates is as follows: Lisa Bender, Milton Loyer, Layne Miller, Anne Horton, and Kirby Hickey. For 2016 General Conference, Kirby Hickey was our first elected reserve laity delegate. Our first reserve laity delegate is now Paul Ilyes and our second reserve laity delegate is Toni Oplinger. Toni moves into that position because she was next in line of those elected as laity to the Jurisdictional Delegation for the 2016 conferences.

The delegation asks that you pray for Warren Heil and his family. If you would like to reach out to him, his home address is:

Warren Heil
103 Simmerson Rd
Elmhurst Twp PA 18441-8558

The delegation members also thank you for your prayers for each of us as we prepare for General Conference 2019.

Lisa D. Bender
Head Laity Delegate
General Conference 2019

WAYS TO SUPPORT DISASTER RESPONSE

In the event of a disaster, resources available to the local church (i.e. volunteers, money, and expertise) are oftentimes limited. This is where the connectional system of the United Methodist Church can provide support and resources to help alleviate the impact on affected areas.

Please consider joining an Early Response Team (ERT) or our Volunteers in Mission (VIM) as they respond to many of the locations that are ready to receive physical as well as spiritual support as they begin the recovery process. Utilize the links below for specific information and specific needs.

If you are unable to join in the disaster response and recovery efforts, please pray for those who are affected and for those who are assisting in those efforts. Also, consider assembling relief kits (https://missioncentral.org/current-needs/) or providing financial/material support to the relief efforts at umcor.org/donate (U.S. Disaster Response, Advance #901670; or Material Resources, Advance #901440).
