FREE POTATOES!
POTATO DROP AT GRACE UMC, LEMOYNE

5th Potato Drop
Saturday, November 11

any time from 6:30 a.m. till noon

Grace Church, Lemoyne has been supporting the Society of St. Andrew, which is a surplus food "saver" since 1990. We send them financial support that we collect at our church on a weekly basis. They use these funds to distribute surplus farmer products to needy individuals, food banks, soup kitchens, etc.

Part of that program is sponsoring a "potato drop" where 42,000 lbs. of potatoes from growers in Maine is delivered to our doorstep (parking lot). Our only costs are for s&h. We in turn contact many organizations who come to our parking lot and pick up as many as they want. i.e., New Hope Ministries this year will take 10,000 lbs. The potatoes are #2 grade (cosmetically imperfect for retail sales but perfectly good for human consumption) and arrive in 50# bags stacked on pallets. We remove them from the tractor/trailer and position them on our parking lot according to requests.

The many various church groups, food banks, soup kitchens, and even individuals arrive at their scheduled time to pick them up. We have volunteers who will load them into their vehicles.

A large group of volunteers from our church, Cross Point UM, and others is on site to help. We also "break down" thousands of lbs. into 7-10 lb. bags for local distribution and/or walk ups.

A very popular part of this event is coffee, hot cider, & donuts for all workers and whoever shows up! Plus, a member of our church makes a large kettle of potato soup. Always an extreme HIT with the volunteers and the folks who come to receive free potatoes. The recipients also love this feature of our event, (especially the truck/van drivers).

If any organizations would like to receive more than 100 lbs. (they can have THOUSANDS of lbs.),  please contact our church at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or call the church office at 717-763-7632.

We welcome any and all individuals to "walk up" and take a 10 lb. bag or even a 50 lb. bag.

  A DAY OF WESLEYAN RENEWAL
