LEADERSHIP IN THE CONTEMPORARY SMALL CONGREGATION
with Rev. Dr. Lew Parks
Friday, September 22-Saturday, September 23, 2017
Christ UMC, Waynesboro, Pa.
This course targets those who are invested in the life of the small congregations that dot our hills, towns, and cities. It argues for the worth of those congregations based on experience, reason, tradition, and Scripture. It offers practical help for those serving in small churches who have a desire to improve their leadership skills in worship, preaching, soul care, ordering the life of the congregation, and planning a good enough future for it. It explores the politics and family dynamics of small church life. It confronts the real challenges faced by small churches but with a prejudice toward hope. The course fulfills a requirement for continued education for certified lay ministers, but would be profitable for local pastors, elders and church leaders.
The cost for each participant is $55.
1.0 CEU for certified lay ministers, local pastors, and church leaders.

SAFE SANCTUARIES TRAINING
Safe Sanctuaries training should be completed by clergy and by each person in our churches who works with children, youth, and vulnerable adults every 60 months (5 years.)
If your church would like to host a Safe Sanctuaries training this fall, please know that there are many trainers available. Your district office or the conference can provide a list of trainers in your area.
It is up to the church to contact a trainer, set a date and time (allow three hours), designate a person to keep track of who registers, and provide the space and hospitality. The trainer will share the date with the conference office so the course can be available to others who need the training. The trainer will bring the training booklets, which are $3 per person. The trainer collects the funds and cares for the paperwork.
While official training is needed every five years, every church should have at least a one-hour session once a year to review your specific church's Safe Sanctuaries policy.
