PARSONAGE INSPECTION AT THE TIME OF TRANSITION REMINDER

This is a reminder to all pastors, and their SPRC chairs, who are moving out of parsonages that an inspection of the parsonage must be done prior to the pastor leaving town. The pastor and the SPRC chair (or other representative) must do the walk through together and note any damage beyond normal wear and tear.

Pastors are responsible for pet damage, and the house is to be sanitized for pet odors. The district superintendent should be notified immediately and will determine the amount the pastor must pay, in consultation will pastor and SPRC. Pastor will be responsible for a pro-rated portion of replacing damaged items that are not new. Please note that even with sanitizing and shampooing, the odor may come back or damage may be discovered when carpeting is removed. Such damage reported within two months is to be reported to the district superintendent to determine if the out-going pastor is responsible.

This is an important part of our accountability to each other. Failure to complete the inspection can result in disputes that cause harm to all.

Rev. Marian Hartman
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre District Superintendent

CHARGE CONFERENCE FORMS AVAILABLE

The forms for 2017 Charge Conference are now available on the conference Web site. Go to the resources tab on the home page and click on Forms or CLICK HERE.

Important things to note this year:

 1.    Forms 1-8 are to be in your district office at least TWO WEEKS prior to your Charge Conference. These may be sent electronically. Signatures will need to be on the copies provided at Charge Conference. Forms 9-11 are due by January 31, 2018, and forms 12-13 are due March 15, 2018.

2.    Pennsylvania law requires corporations to submit change of officers form annually. If your church is not incorporated you do not need to fill this out (but you should consider incorporating). Officers of the corporation are your trustees chair, vice-chair, and secretary. No other officers need to be listed.

 3.   ALL churches must have a Safe Sanctuaries policy whether or not there are children in the church. Copies of new or revised policies are to be sent to the district office

 4.   Health insurance for full-time appointments is currently set at $14,000. The Conference Board of Pensions (which also works with our health insurance) will be meeting in August to determine if that figure needs to be adjusted. Any change will be announced in QuikLINK, and the form will be changed to reflect that adjustment.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre District Superintendent
