DECEMBER VITAL SIGNS NOTES
Just a quick reminder that as you record your attendance figures via Vital Signs, please remember to NOT include your Christmas Eve attendance figures in your weekly filing. Only regular weekly services are to be included. You can indicate your Christmas Eve numbers in the notes section if you want to have a record of them for future reference.
Also, as you complete your filings for 2016, please remember you can go back and fill in any numbers that you may have missed. If the date does not appear any longer on the filing page, you can get to the date by following these directions:
To change the dates on the reporting page, you need to do the following: You cannot just type in a date - you must use the pop up calendar to change the dates in both the 'from' and 'to' fields. If you click on the 'from' date field, a calendar will pop up, you must 'click' on the year, month, and day. Do this for both fields and the date range will hold.
Another way is to go to any 'filing page', scroll to the bottom, click on 'submit'. This takes you to the Thank You page. Below this is an 'option' to 'view/print my filings'. If you click on this option, you will see all the data ever reported for the church. You can either print all of this or highlight the information you want, copy it, paste it into an Excel spreadsheet, and manipulate the data however you want.
Just a reminder that filing your Vital Signs data is required. Please be sure someone is filing your church's Vital Signs faithfully. Doing so gives your church leadership the ability to chart five critical statistics that help measure how your church is doing in its disciple-making task.
If you have not been faithfully reporting, get on board as we move into January 2017.

SUSQUEHANNA CONFERENCE SEMINAR TO GENERAL BOARD OF CHURCH AND SOCIETY FEBRUARY 5-8
Registration Deadline December 31
Issues related to homelessness and poverty will be the study topic of the 2017 Susquehanna Conference Seminar Trip to the General Board of Church and Society's United Methodist Building in Washington, D.C., February 5 - 8, 2017. Participants will learn how to better address these issues as a people of faith in our local communities and how to create systems change through legislative advocacy.
Over 45 million Americans are still struggling with poverty. For the poorest Americans, the problem is getting worse. One in five children live below the poverty line. Approximately 19.4 million Americans live in deep poverty (a family of four living on less than $12,129 a year). While homelessness rates are going down, it remains a major problem. On a given night in January 2015, over half a million Americans were considered homeless.
Past seminars have had speakers from the National Coalition for the Homelessness, Jobs with Justice, Children's Defense Fund, NAACP, and staff from the General Board of Church and Society. The seminar will include an opportunity to meet with Pennsylvania's U.S. senators and/or members of their staff. There will also be free time to explore D.C. More details upon registration.
Cost is $375, which includes coach bus transportation, lodging at the Hotel Harrington in Washington, D.C., (single rooms available at an additional cost), and meals and materials at the GBCS. Participants should bring money for metro transportation, meals not eaten at the GBCS, a tip for the bus driver, and any other personal expenses.
A coach bus will depart from two locations in the Susquehanna Conference. We will promptly depart from First UMC, Williamsport, 604 Market St., Williamsport, at 3 p.m., and Paxton UMC, 3350 N. Progress Ave., Harrisburg, around 5 p.m. on Sunday, February 5. The group will return to Paxton UMC around 5 p.m. on Wednesday, February 8, with the bus continuing to Williamsport.

RESOLUTIONS FOR ANNUAL CONFERENCE DEADLINE JANUARY 13, 2017
One of the special expressions of the United Methodist polity is the opportunity for members of the connection to offer a resolution for consideration to a conference. The founders of our movement believed that in conferencing the Holy Spirit of God could guide us to consider the prompting of our members. The opportunity is here once again for you, your congregation or any of its members to offer a resolution for consideration at the 2017 session of Annual Conference.
A resolution typically is formatted with a series of statements beginning with "Whereas." These statements provide the rationale of the petitioner. These statements demonstrate the assumptions that the petitioner holds. They belong to the petitioner. After the series of "Whereas" statements, there appears at least one statement that begins "Therefore, be it resolved." This becomes the main motion that is put before the Conference. If more than one action is being petitioned, another statement may be added beginning "Be it further resolved."
The Mission and Outreach Team is charged with receiving these resolutions and passing them on to conference with either a vote of concurrence or non-concurrence.

Please indicate a contact person should we need to contact the petitioner for clarification.
Because Annual Conference will meet one month earlier in 2017, all resolutions must be submitted no later than January 13, 2017.
